Surf in English 6è and 5è |  Surf in English is a collection of school books for learners of English. They are pretty old but are still used in some schools (I know what I'm talking about!).
I will only talk about the 6è and 5è levels because I don't know about the others.
The fact that it is rather old explains that it is not up to date in terms of teaching methods. The units are still focused mainly on grammar. They try to have a communcative approach but this is undermined the the incoherence of the structure. The themes in a single unit are not related except through the grammar focus.
Plus, I find the dialogues rather hard for beginners (my pupils had much trouble with them) and not very interesting or attracting to pupils aged 11-12.
The double page opening each unit is the only interesting asset in those books and they allow you to introduce vocabulary through a rather big and original image. But what to make of it? That's the problem.
To sum up, I don't like the lack of coherence in this book. I am not sure that pupils can make sense of it and that's a mjor problem.
